FAQs

What is parent education in youth sport?
Parent education in youth sport is about helping parents understand how to best support their child’s development, wellbeing, and enjoyment of sport. It provides insight into the physical, emotional, and social challenges young athletes face and offers practical guidance on communication, behaviour, and expectations. When parents are informed and aligned, children experience less pressure, more confidence, and a more positive sporting environment that encourages long-term participation and healthy development.
Why is parent behaviour so important?
Parent behaviour plays a crucial role in youth sport because parents have the greatest influence on a child’s confidence, motivation, and enjoyment. The way parents react to performances, setbacks, and challenges shapes how children see themselves and their sport. Positive, informed behaviour reduces pressure, supports resilience, and helps create an environment where young athletes feel safe, confident, and motivated to stay involved in sport long term.
Is this about telling parents what they can and can’t do?
Absolutely not. Parent education is not about telling parents what they can and can’t do. It’s about empowering parents with understanding, awareness, and practical tools so they can support their child in a positive and informed way. The focus is on guidance rather than rules, helping parents feel confident in how they support their child throughout their sporting journey.
Who is parent education for?
Parent education is for any parent or carer involved in youth sport, regardless of their child’s age, ability, or level of competition. Whether your child is just starting out or has been involved in sport for years, parent education helps you support them confidently, positively, and in a way that encourages long-term enjoyment and development.
Who is the workshop for?

The workshops are designed specifically for parents of young athletes. While it is not aimed at coaches or athletes, it benefits the entire sporting environment by helping parents play a more positive, informed, and aligned role. The content is suitable for parents of athletes of any age, in any sport, and at any level of competition.

Why are there 3 different workshops?
Champion Parents delivers three distinct workshops because parents face very different challenges at different stages of their child’s sporting journey. What a parent needs when their child is just starting out is not the same as when competition increases or performance expectations rise. A one-size-fits-all approach risks missing these important differences.

Each workshop is designed to meet parents where they are, providing relevant guidance, language, and practical tools for that stage of development. In addition, Champion Parents works closely with xxclubs to create tailored workshops that draw on key elements from all three sessions, aligned with the club’s main concerns, values, and ethos. This flexible approach ensures parent education is meaningful, relevant, and genuinely supportive of both families and the club environment.

Clubs - How will this support your club and its members?

When parents are informed and aligned with coaches, the whole sporting environment improves. Coaches can coach, communication is clearer, and conflict is reduced while athletes experience less pressue, hear the right language at home, and enjoy a more positive culture that supports happiness, development, and long-term participation in sport.

How is the workshop delivered?

The workshop can be delivered face to face, online or pre-recorded, giving clubs flexibility to choose what works best. Face-to-face sessions are highly engaging and interactive, with numbers capped at 40 parents to allow discussion and questiions. Online sessions offer a convenient option for busy families while still delivering the same valuable content and impact.

How much does it cost?

Pricing ranges from £10-£30 per parent, reflecting our commitment to making sport education affordable and accessible for parents everywhere. Workshops are available online, face to face, or as pre-recorded sessions.
